Autumn in Central Park

Central Park at the height of autumn: a stone bridge crosses the water and the towers of Manhattan rise behind a screen of orange and scarlet leaves. The pond takes the whole park back again in broken strokes of red, turquoise and violet, so the reflection is busier than the bank above it. Thick knife work throughout — the leaves are dabs of paint standing proud of the canvas.
