Bougainvillea Over the Blue Domes
A Greek island street where a bougainvillea has taken the whole wall and half the sky. Behind it stands the blue dome of a church and, further out, a sea painted almost the same blue, so that roof and water answer each other. The flowers are laid on with the knife in thick separate touches — crimson, magenta, green — and the whitewashed steps below carry their shadow in violet and lilac rather than grey.
