Lavender and the Pink Tree

A tree in full pink flower standing on the horizon of a lavender field, with the sun going down behind it in a wide band of gold. Above the light the sky turns deep blue, worked in violet and red; below it the rows run away to the right in every shade from pale lilac to near-black purple. The tree is the one warm mass in a cold field, and the whole painting is built to put it there. Oil on canvas, palette knife throughout.
